Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival kicked off on Monday, and what a hell of a week it’s been already.
The opening event saw David Jones present this season’s hottest pieces created by Australia’s top designers.
From thick, woollen fabrics layered over chunky knits and scarfs at Jac + Jack, Bassike and Willow, to nautical dreaming at Banjo & Matilda and Nicholas, David Jones proved that this season has a trend for everyone.
Take note of these four styles from Monday’s runway when planning your winter wardrobe and you’ll be set for the season.
ANIMAL KINGDOM
From a structured flare dress at Camilla and Marc to a light-weight satin number at Ginger and Smart, this season is all about letting your inner lion roar.
COBALT BLUE
Whoever said blue described a bad mood did not own a little blue Cameo hat. The electric colour took the runway by storm, from a body-hugging dress and structured blazer at Bianca Spender, to a casual black and blue panelled silk dress at Ginger and Smart.
SHEER WHITES
Whether it’s sheer sleeves or a translucent knit, in an Australian winter it’s okay to bare skin. In fact you’ll be looked at weird if you’re not doing it.
THE LEATHER LBD
We’ve always been told a Little Black Dress is essential to every woman’s wardrobe, so why not stand out in leather this winter? From a bodycon at Camilla and Marc to a cute A-line at Cameo, a leather LBD will go with countless pieces this winter.
