Nicola Claire: quirky fashionista with a hell of a wardrobe.
Let’s go back to 2011, when Nicola first began showcasing her trends on the streets of Melbourne. In simplistic shoots she conveys her creative styling techniques and wonderful pieces sourced globally and locally.
Over the past 4 years Nicola has continued to build her own collection of pieces, a self-featured styling portfolio and quite a fan base, with a direct link to all her daily blog posts available on Twitter.
The stylist is a prime advertiser and influencer of everything the fashion industry has to offer. Interested in something she’s wearing? Below her image she names the direct store or online site where the item was bought, and as every piece includes something from Topshop or Zara it is becoming increasingly easier to access Nicola’s wardrobe. If you didn’t already know, this is due to the fact that that these international style houses have been added to Melbourne’s fashion scope in the last 3 years (with H&M said soon to follow).
I recently had a quick chat with Nicola, the up-and-coming super styler, to find out what makes the mind of an emerging fashion blogger and stylist in Melbourne’s fashion industry today.
Chloe: You have quite an individual take on style, where are you from?
Nicola: I’m from Scotland.
Chloe: What are your achievements within the fashion industry?
Nicola: I have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to work with a number of amazing brands, and as a blogger I get to see previews of collections before they hit stores. I’ve also had the opportunity to attend many industry events which is amazing.
Chloe: Who’s at the top of your list in terms of designers?
Nicola: I’m a huge fan of Balmain – Olivier Rousteing can do no wrong in my eyes. Alexander Wang is also another favourite of mine and has been for a long time, I’ve fallen in love with all of his collections especially his handbags/shoes.
Chloe: What’s your favourite current trend?
Nicola: Hmmm my favourite trend at the moment would probably be Monochrome. Although my favourite everyday trend is probably the Biker Jacket, which has been for a while.
Chloe: Finally, if you could give one style tip what would it be?
Nicola: As generic as it sounds, I would say my number one style tip is always be yourself, originality is key.
If you’re edging for someone to lead you in the ways of Melbourne’s fashion, Nicola is the prime advocate. Follow her blog or Twitter for the daily scoop.
